"I don't think you can meaningfully come to understand human progress without understanding the depths of human misery; a consideration of the human endeavor that weighs only the progress and none of those who have been progressed upon is a work of fantasy."

FYI (pronounced "fyeee"), the link's broken.
ReplyDeleteExcellent line.
Heh. Thanks for the heads up, Ethan.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I get for not proofing.
Will fix.
Ethan,
ReplyDeleteYou know what rocked? I struggled to find the words for my intro about uncertainty. I have six or so pages of yellow legal pad, trying to flesh out a single paragraph of meaning so that I didn't violate the position I meant to explication, in the explaining of it.
And then, following a rather random rhizomatic list of other people's blogrolls, I came across this blogger, and his gem of an essay.
There was a mirror to my own thinking, unique for its perspective, but sharing a large enough set of epistemes to make our experiences communicable.
That shit rocked.
~ Jack
Sigh: "meant to explicate"
ReplyDeleteIt's things like that that make me think blogging is actually worthwhile, no matter how silly it can seem sometimes.
