Nope

Leon Panetta, rising star:

"Today, we have rid the world of the most infamous terrorist of our time."

Nope. Your boss is still firmly in power. The man who arrogated to himself the lawyer scripted fiat power to kill on his command - and with impunity. The multiple murderer of children. The lord of the sky death robots. A serial killer in all but name.

He will probably be re-elected because he rules over a nation of moral and emotional infants who grave dance over symbolic murders while they cultivate a studied indifference to the homeless, the destitute, the war ravaged and the oppressed.

His predecessor is still making tens of thousands in speaking fees. Their Secretaries of State and War are still well respected women and men of gravitas, depth and power. Petraeus and the television generals will continue to draw paychecks. Defense industry contractors have not seen their contracts canceled. Those contracts will never be canceled.

And Al-Zawahri is already being media groomed as the new Goldstein:

"CAIRO — For years, Osama bin Laden's charisma kept al-Qaida's ranks filled with zealous recruits.

But it was the strategic thinking and the organizational skills of his Egyptian right hand man that kept the terror network together after the United States invaded Afghanistan in 2001 and pushed al-Qaida out.

With Bin Laden killed, Ayman al-Zawahri becomes the top candidate for the world's top terror job.

It's too early to tell how exactly al-Qaida would change with its founder and supreme mentor gone, but the group under al-Zawahri would likely be further radicalized, unleashing a new wave of attacks to avenge bib Laden's killing by U.S. troops in Pakistan on Monday to send a message that it's business as usual.

Al-Zawahri's extremist views and his readiness to use deadly violence are beyond doubt..."

....because poor Colonel Q is about two bombs or a kill team away from joining his corpsified get, and the ranks of past bogeymen.

Corporate and Uncle aren't going to trade away this lovely jingo momentum for something as wishy and washy as peace.

The war on forever won't stop until the world is a wasteland. You know it, Leon. Anyone with a functioning frontal lobe knows it. The US is still fighting Indian Wars for a reason, Leon. You have your job for exactly this purpose - to find new Indians to kill because Indian Wars make a lot of money.

And the biggest purveyor of that violence for money is the man who just promoted you.

Of course he's a terrorist. That's his job description.

And unlike Osama, Obama campaigned for the job.

  1. All true.

The crowing (sorry, no offense to your humble name) going on all over the country, including in the lefty blabbosphere, is sickening.

  3. It's a shame there aren't any job openings for Old Testament Prophets, 'cause you'd nail the interview.

I've been wondering who the new Enemy of the Empire will be.

  4. I've three minds about the religion, Will.

I love me the prophets, and I'm vainly flattered by your comment.

I've never quite shaken the fervor of my days as a street preacher, anabaptist firebrand and disciple of dead mystics (Bonhoeffer, Boehme, Merton, the brothers Berrigan, Day and Hennacy, Berdyaev, Juan de Yepes, Hildegaard and Theresa, etc.)

Honestly, what's left of my outrage exists because I cannot shake it, despite my obvious and conflicting embrace of personal nihilism, atheism and inchoate self-serving anarchism.

I'm weary and wary of religion, but the language of faith and the baptism of pathos and passion hold their continued appeal.

As for the new designate, I'm keeping the money I don't have on Ayman.

  6. We're all right wingers now, we get our identity from our enemies. Gotta give it to the CIA, though, they created a durable myth -- almost on the Hitler level.

Amazing post. It's like you take the formless ball of rage in my head and the churning in my stomach, and turn them into words. I feel less lonely and less sick.

    For that alone, thank you.

  8. To echo Hernando, thanks Jack. I felt compelled to comment because his "lonely and sick" hit home. Why it should surprise me, I don't know, but it is disheartening nevertheless.

  9. As BDR mentioned a few days back, hiatus if not outright shutdowns seem to be common in 'Blegsylvania'. I am extremely grateful that you haven't followed that trend.

    Anyone seen oxtrot lately?

  10. Oxtrot is dead; Ochstradt occasionally is thawed out of cryo-preservation to wonder at the idiocy of America.

    He's all wonder-ful right now.
