"...What sort of meager, unerotic existence must a man live to find himself moved to such ecstatic heights by the mundane sniping of a congressional budget fight. The fate of human existence does not hang in the balance. The gods are not arrayed on either side. Poseiden, earth-shaker, has regrettably set his sights on the poor fishermen of northern Japan and not on Washington, D.C. where his ire might do some good--I can think of no better spot for a little wetland reclamation project, if you know what I mean. The fight is neither revolution nor apocalypse; it is hardly even a fight. A lot of apparatchiks are moving a lot of phony numbers with more zeros than a century of soccer scores around, weaving a brittle chrysalis around a gross worm that, some time hence, will emerge, untransformed, still a worm." ~ IOZ

"Israeli officials say they won't warn the U.S. if they decide to launch a pre-emptive strike against Iranian nuclear facilities, according to one U.S. intelligence official familiar with the discussions. The pronouncement, delivered in a series of private, top-level conversations, sets a tense tone ahead of meetings in the coming days at the White House and Capitol Hill.

Israeli officials said that if they eventually decide a strike is necessary, they would keep the Americans in the dark to decrease the likelihood that the U.S. would be held responsible for failing to stop Israel's potential attack. The U.S. has been working with the Israelis for months to persuade them that an attack would be only a temporary setback to Iran's nuclear program."

The "US" is responsible for every decision made by Israeli leaders, in the same way that the head of an organized crime family is responsible for the orders given to his underbosses. Without the head of the racket, there is no underling whose actions can "distance" the boss from the deed itself.

If the leadership of the Israeli suicide cult state starts a war with Iran, wager every dollar you have on the solid bet that Washington has given its approval, its marching orders and its imprimatur to the wholly owned subsidiary that is Israel.

I don't really agree with your translation; perhaps it's due simply to the nuances of translating one language to another.

Here's my humble translation:

Bibi: If you won't play my way, I'm gonna take my ball and go home! And I'm not even going to tell you if I'm having a good time with my other friends! Nyah!

Barak: Are you nuts? You want me to have those bullies over at the Iranian playground sink some of my ships while I'm trying to get re-elected? No way, Bibi! Take your ball and go home if you want to play that way!

Bibi: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Barak: You can wait your turn like everyone else. First I get re-elected and then you can have your war.

Bibi: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! I'm gonna tell on you! I'm gonna tell all my friends! Then you'll never get re-elected anyway!

Barack: Michelle! Michelle! Bibi's being mean to me! He's being really mean!

Michelle: There, there, honey! Bibi is just having a challenging behavioral episode. I know his mommy and we'll have a talk. Everything will be okay. Bibi's just a little upset. He'll get his war, but you're right - he has to wait his turn.

These denials do not seem plausible to me. But I guess the propaganda does not need to fool everyone.

The NYT/WH creative team needs to come up with a better cover story.

Maybe a leaked document laying out the (fake) drama?

Jack—I agree with your analysis of this completely. Israel is not the reason we will go to war with Iran. As I have said many times it is the oil in the Caspian Basin that is the target. It is one thing for US politicians to please the Zion movement in the US and to crave Israeli money for campaign funds but it is quite another thing when it comes to the oil wars. The fact is we would be attacking Iran even if Israel didn’t exist which I wish it didn’t. The most likely scenario is that the US and Israel are working together to put on this little dog and pony show where Israel claims it will attack first without permission which will give the US the excuse it is looking for to invade Iran. It seems very transparent to me. The US has a long history of manufacturing incidents as excuses to enter into wars.

Pied,

I don't think the Israelis act without US permission. Ever.

Walter,

The denials haven't been plausible since Iran-Contra. There's a trend here. Contempt is out in the open. Plus, most of us don't have time to care. Everything is harder and more expensive.

Rob,

I think there are still factions in the federal government who prefer a sanctions regime, black bag work and internal regime change: especially those represented by the extraction companies already in place in Baku, etc.

But, war is profitable. Especially when people are getting killed by shit dropped from miles up. Those bombs earn a pretty fucking penny for their manufactures. And they keep a domestic population in its place. Wars do not produce resistances anymore. They harden people into captured camps.

Jack,

Money from bombs is certainly icing on the cake. I doubt that after spending the last 21 years building a military vice around the Caspian Basin including the invasion of two bordering nations, and spending trillions of dollars that the Pentagon would stop at Iran. Iran may be more powerful than Iraq and Afghanistan but they are hardly a huge obstacle. I would guess that they are considering how they can do it without drawing Russia and China into a war, WWIII that is to say. I would guess that once having established military bases in Afghanistan in a manner that pleases them and feel they can withdraw the main body of troops from there that that will be when they attack Iran. The troops are already in the region as well as the troops in Kuwait. It won’t be much trouble to send them on to Iran form those strategic locations. I would also guess that the only reason we haven’t attacked Iran yet is that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were more difficult than they expected as is usually the case with wars the only exceptions that come to mind being the German invasion of Poland and France at the beginning of WWII.

Hi Jack,

I don't think the Israelis ever act without Washington's blessing either.

Consequently I'd say it's unlikely that Israel will attack Iran anytime soon.

An attack against Iran at this point in time is not in Washington's interest.

I was about to post something like this today, no doubt less colorful an engaging, but you beat me to it.

The anti-Israel people over at antiwar.com just eat this stuff up, but who how could anyone really believe that Israel could attack Iran without US approval and assistance?

Unless you believe that every US soldier at every airbase and naval station in the Gulf is asleep when it happens.

Jack Crow said...

Richard,

I've lost almost any patience for the idea that Israel can force the US hand. Israel exists on sufferance. And because it's useful for "the West" to collectively support a Jewish colony at the nexus point of Middle East.

Pied,

Where we differ, it seems, is in our understanding of what serves the current Admin's interest.

I think Obama wants this war, because his faction doesn't want it happening on the Republican watch. And I think he has the chutzpah to get it.

I could be wrong.
