Alas, the holiday sign off must wait, and the odd sons of Scandia must have their midnight music pushed aside a moment, to ponder the truly horrific, replacing now the merely representative. The somber notes of melancholy and affluent boredom end, and in the silence between this and that, well...
A while back, you might have have heard of a wee spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Imperial Barack, he handled it. Or something. Or, he let the polluting oil behemoth pretend it had a plan.
And during months of seeping, gushing oil, they added their own toxin to the mix, Corexit.
Which had a first and nearly immediate effect: Corexit Rain.
Poison rain falling on already blighted crops in regions cusping the edge of permanent drought.
Oil - a boon, a fatal success.
But Corexit may not, in the end, gain its lasting fame - fame that lasts only as long as it takes the last mother to die, perhaps - from poison rains.
Nay, say the unreal fates and the almost believable furies. Silly rabbits, howl the erinyes, you think the edge of death rides only a cloudburst of poison rain? Fools, humans. You have not begun to suffer the advent calendar of your worst :
(h/t Avedon)
"The Loop Current...has stopped, says a noted scientist with years of experience in analyzing it. If so, the ramifications are staggering...
He believes the cessation of the current is due to BP dumping millions of gallons of Corexit into the Gulf, combined with the effects of climate change. Further, he says US scientific authorities began falsifying data after he published his paper."
Source.
“As displayed by both by the sea surface maps and the sea surface height maps, the Loop Current broke down for the first time around May 18th and generated a clock wise eddy, which is still active. As of today the situation has deteriorated up to the point in which the eddy has detached itself completely from the main stream therefore destroying completely the Loop Current. ..”
“It is reasonable to foresee the threat that the breaking of [such] a crucial warm stream as the Loop Current may generate a chain reaction of unpredictable critical phenomena and instabilities due to strong non-linearities which may have serious consequences on the dynamics of the Gulf Stream thermoregulation activity of the Global Climate.” —Dr. Gianluigi Zangari

"...What sort of meager, unerotic existence must a man live to find himself moved to such ecstatic heights by the mundane sniping of a congressional budget fight. The fate of human existence does not hang in the balance. The gods are not arrayed on either side. Poseiden, earth-shaker, has regrettably set his sights on the poor fishermen of northern Japan and not on Washington, D.C. where his ire might do some good--I can think of no better spot for a little wetland reclamation project, if you know what I mean. The fight is neither revolution nor apocalypse; it is hardly even a fight. A lot of apparatchiks are moving a lot of phony numbers with more zeros than a century of soccer scores around, weaving a brittle chrysalis around a gross worm that, some time hence, will emerge, untransformed, still a worm." ~ IOZ

I'm fairly suspicious of any youtube video that's been uploaded by a 9/11 truther. So you believe in this, but not global warming?
I don't "believe in" global warming the way I don't "believe in" my own atheism. I accept the validity of the argument and the available models. I reject the offered alternatives, Jenny. So, I don't know where you came up with the idea that I disavow global warming. Perhaps you have reading comprehension problems.
I also don't care if a person is or is not a "truther." I like the Muse song "Unnatural Selection." It doesn't matter if Matthew Bellamy is a "truther." That has no bearing on my appreciation for a single particular song.
In the same way, an assumed* preference for a 9/11 conspiracy theory has no bearing on that person's uploading of a scientific video showing the truncation of the loop current.
Or, to use another example - I enjoy reading Annie Dilliard. She's one of my favorite non-fiction writers. Her own cosmological conspiracy theory - Christianity - has fuck all to do with my appreciation for "Pilgrim At Tinker Creek." Same with one of the finest movies made in the last twenty years, "Children of Men." The author of the story is a Christian, the movie is largely faithful to the original, and the story functions as a Christian allegory.
* - I don't know if the blogger is or is not a "truther," and you, Jenny, are not a reliable source. You took a rejection of Noam Chomsky and read into it an "every man for himself" philosophy I couldn't begin to have. So, there's that, and shit...
While I am generally alarmist when it comes to GW, and disruption to the gulf stream is involved in many of the models being examined, there is no Gianluigi Zangari at the Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati, nor are there any scholarly papers by a Gianluigi Zangari found by google scholar. I would put it in the fake category.

Grano salis, always. But, here's an email, fish. Someplace to start.
I emailed the media contact at Frascati National Labs, fish.
Interesting to see what manner of reply I'll get. I don't read Italian well at all, so I couldn't navigate the site properly to find the personnel page.

I've seen that document, but it isn't actually published in a journal.
By the google scholar search, I mean that there is no physicist with a publication history named Gianluigi Zangari, nor does his name come up when you search INFN's website (it does work when you search with faculty that are listed).
Thanks for taking the time to verify this information- at any rate, I'm still apprehensive that this oil spill is a major assault in our continuing Gaiacide.
