The President of the Transitional National Council (that is, the organization so committed to Freedom and Democracy™ that its only acts, thus far, have been to make a bank on paper so that Obama, NATO and the UN can assign it ownership of Libyan state assets, and officially beg for those assets to be unfrozen):
Mustafa Abdul Jalil. Qaddafi's former Justice Minister.
And his Prime Minister:
Mahmoud Jibril. Qaddafi's former National Economic Development Council chief, and well known as a neo-liberal proponent of privatization, trade reform and closer ties to Washington and London, in Libya.
Plus, some defected army chiefs, several lawyers, a few economists, the former Qaddafi appointed head of the Libyan National Air Force, and about a thousand fighters comprised of drug traffickers, smugglers, and poorly armed teenagers who, when not killing black Libyans, were busy calling air strikes down on each other.
(Shh...we're not mentioning the foreign powers, their flying piloted death machines, tons of munitions, special forces operators, including the British SAS [and rumoring, the French Foreign Legion], remote controlled sky death robots, off shore bombing from French, Italian and American naval vessels, and the completely innocent official recognition by about 30 states desperate for concessions or Western assistance...)
And what are they going to do with their glorious and totally spontaneous, popular uprising against a bad man who no man in his right mind would ever be associated with?
Why, hand out concessions and re-construction contracts to

"Few may remember that the TNC's Jalil was the judge that condemned those Bulgarian nurses to death - a notorious case in France that warranted muscular intervention by neo-Napoleonic Nicolas Sarkozy, who even regimented his trophy wife Carla Bruni to seduce the Big G. After the nurses were freed, Jalil was promoted by Gaddafi to justice minister, lasting from 2007 until his opportunistic defection last February."
Nice catch, RZ. Thank you for that. I would feign unsurprise if I could, but the truth of the matter is that I can still be surprised by the banality and the opportunism of our neo/neo masters.
davidly,
Linkage gratitude.
Simply Great Post.....

Please. Thank you. Please.
The Bush/McCain/Lieberman overtures back a couple of years were most likely recon missions to see who could be bought. Now we know.
Zen,
From RZ's Asia Times link:
"...Follow the money
On the banking front, WikiLeaks once again had already revealed that the privatization of Libya's central bank was regarded as a golden "opportunity" for US banks. The shadow "rebel" bank facilitated by HSBC in all probability will take over - obviously not independent as the previous Libya Central Bank but aligned with the Swiss-based Bank for International Settlements (BIS), the central bankers' central bank.
So bye-bye to 'subversive', unifying Gaddafi ideas such as dumping the US dollar and the euro so Arab and African nations would start dealing in a new single currency - the gold dinar. It's crucial to note that most African nations - and a lot of Arabs - backed up the idea. The only serious contrarians in the region were South Africa and the Arab League (influenced by the House of Saud). Obviously Washington and the European Union (EU) were furious - to the point of calling NATO to the rescue..."

This series of episodes also demonstrates Turkey's relative weakness, and its precariousness as a counterbalance within Europe and NATO. Erdogan wanted to forestall intervention. He failed, miserably:
Clinton And Jibril Meet Early
Heh, I found a special blog just in time for this post.
Jm,
What's your point? That there's a superficial difference between an Infowars adherent and my own criticism of cruise missile liberalism?
Jack
Those two paragraphs are most telling.
The [BIS] is always a player. :-)
Turkey will be looking further East, not West.
It's is just a matter of time.
Or Erdogan will suddenly be discovered as a dangerous, Iran loving Islamist...
LOL
Iran is an observer nation for the [SCO] Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
And so is Pakistan, and India.
Afghanistan, Iraq, and Turkey want to become observer nations, which is the step before becoming a full member.
This is the biggest threat to the West in the Grand Chess game.
The energy resource route choke points are the the final agenda.
this is why Yemen, Bahrain, and Somalia are so important.
They are also energy route choke points.
It is the control of the energy that is the prize.
Energy is worth more to The Seven Sisters when the tap is turned off.
A truth, RZ. The European heads of state learned the hard way, when the Russians, tired of being pissed on by NATO encroachers, turned the taps to Eurozone natural gas all the way to "Off."
My wife is from Korea.
We are planning on moving to S/Korea.
Russia is planning on building a natural gas pipeline through N and S Korea.
From there it could be shipped quickly and cheaply to Japan and beyond.
Turkey has its own problems with the Kurds.
Kurdistan will be a major issue.
Israel has been trying to get a foot hold in Kurdistan.
Syria is much more complicated for the West than Libya.
Do you ever go the the blog.
The Trench.
I have him on my blog roll.
Been aware of your blog for a few months , but a have to disagree with your implication that the people of Libya did not rise on their own of were doing so on behalf of the c.i.a or the Italiano. You cannot begin to imagine the absurdity of Qaddafi rule , how bizarre , arbitrary stupid and cruel his rule could be.There are a few Libyans ,not one of them does not despise the personality cult surrounding the great the second they leave the country. But that this is now and has been for months a nato led and fed rebellion is almost indisputable.
Ah,
I don't think that every single person in Libya falls into an either/or category - with the only two options being either for Qadaffi, or as a stooge of the Western powers.
My criticism is aimed at the "revolution" which is playing out on Western televisions since that is I believe a clearly identifiable extraction raid, run by factotums for European and American resources and banking concerns.
NATO isn't bombing Libya out of the goodness of its collective and yet somehow still non-existent heart. It has run nearly seven thousand separate bombing missions, in the span of six months, so that a particular faction (the ones on the television) can get legal control of resources, and put a legal face on an act of piracy.
There are no doubt people in Libya who are glad Q is going or gone. A joy to which they are entitled, regardless of the opinions of powerless commentators in the relative comfort of occidental nation states.
I'm not taking a pro-Q position, for what it's worth, either, except in so much as anything which prevents the Western powers from consolidating their concessionist/neoliberal hold on former colonial fiefs deserves a second viewing.
Hope that clarifies what I'm aiming at here, Ah, and thank you also for reading.
